A native of Tampa, Florida, Richard D. Martin is the first-born son to Elders Ricky and Vivian Martin. He has two beautiful sisters, Jessica and Jasmyne, as well as a growing nephew, Zachary. He is a proud product of Christian education, graduating Valedictorian from Pine Forge Academy in 2007, Cum Laude from Oakwood University with a BA in Theology in 2012, and from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, at Andrews University, with a Master of Divinity in 2014. God has given Richard a unique affinity for the preached Word and has afforded him the opportunity to proclaim the Great News of Jesus Christ nationally and internationally. In 2011, he was honored with Oakwood University’s distinguished Moseley-Warren Homiletics Award. In 2012, he was inducted into the Academy of Preachers, and was one of the first three Seventh-day Adventists to preach at the Academy’s National Festival of Young Preachers. Richard enjoys thought-provoking conversations, well-written books, spirited sporting events, and delectable cuisine. He considers his gorgeous wife, Kylah, to be a resplendent gift of superlative value. In his words, “She is one of God’s gifts of grace to me.” God has blessed Richard with a passion for the Word of God and for God’s people. His greatest joy is witnessing people come to that “Aha!” moment, when Jesus becomes all the world to them. One of his favorite Scripture passages is Ephesians 2:8, 9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” His life motto is: It is better to live in the will of God and be questioned by men, than to live in the will of men and be questioned by God.
